Educational Work and Farm Visits

Boreray RaskelfEducational Farm visits for Nursery classes, school groups or clubs .

An interactive tour of our small farm learning about Britains Native farm breeds, learn about where these animals came from around the British Isles and why it is so important to preserve them for the future. Around the farm we meet traditional breeds, including the most ancient sheep breed from the Outer Hebrides and Iron age sheep from the Isle of man with four horns ,and some of Britains rarest breeds of sheep ,pigs ,goats and poultry .

The British Saddleback pigs are always a favourite with children and if you are lucky we may have a litter of piglets to see too. We also have an option to visit our herd of Irish Moiled cattle too ,this involves a short drive [under your own transport]

During the tour the group will learn about the responsibility a farmer has each day to let out and feed the stock. There will be an opportunity to feed the poultry and meet the ducks and chickens .

We let out the noisy geese at the end of the tour !

To conclude the visit we have a discussion ,learning about what the animals produce and have a small display of yarn ,fleeces ,milk ,eggs, knitted items and of course the "Who laid which egg?" quiz !!

Visits usually start at 9.30 and finish at 12 pm but can alter to suit requirements
